This is the first time Pete Lau is having a press meet in India. It has always been Carl Pei, the co-founder and global face of OnePlus who had interacted with the tech media in India. We understand that Pete Lau is attending couple of other tech events in the country, and that might well be one of the reasons to choose Bangalore for announcing the ‘next big step’. OnePlus announced its flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2 back in July this year, and India was amongst the launch countries for the phone. Although the company continues to struggles meeting the exceptional demand the phone continues to enjoy. OnePlus X is expected to be a mini version of OnePlus 2 with specs matching a higher mid-range smartphone. It’s expected to cost around $249 and will probably sport a 5-inch FHD screen and powered by the Mediatek Helio X10 processor. Last month, Vikas Agarwal had hinted about device focussing more on “delivering great design to customers and it will be targeted at the fashion conscious.” Moreover, most rumors talk about late October or early November launch for the phone, which is why we assume this press meet has something to offer regarding the mini OnePlus 2. Some rumors also indicate OnePlus’ foray into wearables and/or Internet of Things space, or another ‘Make in India‘ announcement that has become quite common these days. Stay tuned for more details on October 12th. Update: It indeed looks like the ‘Make in India’ announcement rather than a product launch.
